Jenkins X is a CI/CD modern cloud solution for CI/CD on Kubernetes, Kubernetes has become the preferred way for deploying containers on the cloud, we will be looking at Jenkins x and why is it being preferred for container applications, it does work on minikube but is preferred to get it installed on a public cloud provider (Google, AWS or Azure)
Jenkins X runs on a cluster and it provides serverless support, which means we can run Jenkins when required and no need of running a static Jenkins master, you can direct download the binary for Jenkins X or we can set up a cluster with Jenkins X. we will be looking at installing it a GKE cluster.
Create a Google Cloud Account
Open Cloud Shell and create a cluster using terraform by enabling Jenkins X.
module "jx" {
source = "jenkins-x/jx/google"
gcp_project = "id of the gcp project"
}
output "jx_requirements" {
value = module.jx.jx_requirements
}
We can also install it natively by downloading the jenkins x binary, after installing it on the cluster, we will get a cluster as below , you may come across a binding issue while creating the cluster, this might be due to the version of kubernetes , try upgrading it.
